Location: South Hook LNG

Following an exhaustive pre-qualification process, culminating in group presentation to the AMEC team, Port Engineering were successful in beating other prominent local engineering companies to win the contract to undertake remedial works to the Gas Export Pipeline at the South Hook LNG plant at Milford Haven.
The scheme involved :

  • Modifying sleepers and piers to accommodate new pipe support assemblies.
  • Elimination of localised corrosion and wear of the Export Line
  • Inspection of condition of the line
  • Modification of sleepers to remove pipe support points.

The work was carried out in ten separate stages and all works within the site had to be carried out in strict accordance with the Site Safety procedures,regulations and restrictions. Particular importance had to be given to the interface with construction activities and safety with respect to access to the existing site for operating personnel and adequate and safe passage for general access and escape routes.

In order to maximise safety and productivity all activities associated with each particular task had to be thoroughly organised in detail,in advance of works commencing and in accordance with the safety procedure and schedules.

Separate risk assessments method statements and permits had to be undertaken for each and every workface.
